Position Summary
The Sr. Benefits Specialist will be responsible for assisting the Director, Total Rewards in evaluating, implementing, maintaining compliance, administering and communicating company benefits (e.g., medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, disability, FMLA, workers’ compensation, COBRA, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, wellness initiatives, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) retirement plan, other voluntary benefits) to all associates and their dependents. The position maintains accurate benefit data and files and deals directly with associates on a daily basis providing assistance with benefit questions/issues. The position acts as a liaison to associates, insurance carriers and benefit providers and coordinates activities as they relate to benefits administration across various departments including Payroll, Human Resources and Legal. The position will be responsible for evaluating, developing and implementing strategies for improvement in health/welfare and retirement administrative processes and service delivery.
Position Responsibilities
The position responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:
· Maintain compliance with all benefit programs. Monitor plans to ensure compliance with federal and state laws including HIPAA, FMLA, ERISA and COBRA. Assist in ensuring government reporting requirements are met (5500s, SPDs, SMMs, SARs, etc.) and other benefits communications in accordance with federal and state legislation. Maintain the Total Rewards dashboard to enable Sr. Management to share the successes of the department including benchmarking, and identifying key metrics.
· Manage and have direct relationships with vendors. Ensure vendors deliver timely, targeted, and cost efficient benefit programs. Manage all eligibility data feeds to plan vendors and resolve issues with plan representatives. Process all vendor billings accurately and maintain accurate employee benefit deductions by processing, inputting and maintaining benefit information and other demographic information in the Human Resources Information System.
· Maintain accurate benefit data and files and deal directly with associates on a daily basis providing assistance with benefit question/issues and use a benefit Plan Document, Summary Plan Description (s) and other reference material to answer escalated benefit plan inquiries from associates and their dependents Act as a liaison to associates, insurance carriers and benefit providers.
· Educate associates on all aspects of company’s benefit programs during new employee orientation, large group meetings and one-on-one consultations. Assist in the development and implementation of the annual open enrollment project. Communicate benefit programs clearly and concisely, translating complex data and/or benefits information into easily understood terms. Assist in preparing documentation, data and presentations for Benefit Committee Meetings.
· Coordinate benefits under FMLA, STD, LTD, Workers’ Compensation, Vacation, Sick and Personal Leave. Educate and train associates and management on the benefits and processes of these programs and maintain compliance.
· Coordinate the activities of the Wellness Committee ensuring the programs are supporting positive lifestyle changes that will result in improved health and productivity for associates and their dependents.
Position Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required and CEBS certification preferred and5 to 8 years specialized benefits related experience in a fast paced organization.
· Strong knowledge of health and retirement plans and their administration. Demonstrated experience independently handling both day-to-day and complex benefit inquiries.
· Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop effective relationships and partnerships with HR team and business partners at all levels within the organization.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer orientation.
· Ability to flourish in a team environment; apply project management skills/techniques, ability to lead a team, as well as work independently.
· Solution driven using creative and diverse ways to approach a problem or answer a question
· Demonstrates confidence, credibility, and good judgment.
· Advanced PC skills in MS Office, specifically MS Excel. Experience and/or aptitude using Excel formulas and functions to gather, manipulate and audit large data sets.
· Strong knowledge of databases, report writing and HRIS systems. Previous experience using payroll and benefit systems, preferably ADP Enterprise.
